The Wm. Britain line of fine Model Soldiers

We are pleased to be able to carry the W. Britian line of model soldiers.
There is, to our knowledge, no other retailer of finely crafted model soldiers in the region between Montreal. Toronto and Ottawa.
Visitors to Fort Henry in Kingston (which now sadly has very few nice models in its gift shop) may find it worth travelling a few minutes West to see what we have on our shelves.

France
Général Édouard de Colbert, 1815 (WB 2008 Collection # 36009) @ $34.95
Colbert commanded the 1st Division of Guard Cavalry (the 2e Regiment and the Polish Lancers) at Waterloo where, wounded, he led one of the many useless and virtually suicidal charges against British squares on June 16th. Colbert had commanded the 2e Regiment in Russia in 1812 and in the 1813 German campaign. Not one of Napoleon's better known general's. but not the less worthy for that.

Trooper, Chasseurs à Cheval de la Garde, 1815. (WB 2008 collection # 36010) @ $34.95
The Chasseurs à Cheval and the Dutch (Red) Lancers formed the Guard's light Cavalry Division at Waterloo, under the command of General Lefebvre-Desnouëttes. Another of the fine units to be decimated in the ruinous charges at British squares.
* * *
Général Charles Lefebvre-Desnouëttes, 1815 (WB 2009 Collection # 36014) @ $34.95
Lefebvre-Desnouëttes. commanded the Guard Light Cavalry Division at Waterloo and had commanded the Chasseurs à Cheval in Russia. He is considered to be one of Napoleon's best cavalry commanders, although in 1808 he led a disastrous attack which got himself wounded, captured and taken prisoner to Britain (from whence he escaped in 1811). After Waterloo he was proscribed and fled to America. He died in 1821, in a storm off Ireland, while trying to return to the Continent.

The Highland Regiments
Wellington has been quoted as saying of his soldiers, particularly the Highlanders, "I don't know how they affect the enemy but, by God, they scare me!" This bunch certainly served him well.

The 95th Rifle Regiment (Green Jackets), 1815
The rifle was an artificer's innovation when introduced in the late 18th century. The Rifle Regiment quickly established the superiority of its weapons, but the Army's inherent conservatism kept the 'Brown Bess' musket, with its inferior range and accuracy, the prdominant arm at Waterloo.
The Sharp's Rifles, etc. television series offers a gritty depiction of a small part of this regiment, and a highly imaginative series of adventurs of the hero (Finally, Sean Bean plays a good guy!). The uniforms in this series are splendid, if occasionally ratty and other times imaginative.

British Cavalry
Britsh Cavalry had a reputation for dash, bravery and skill, but also for an exhuberance in charging that often caused disastrous. Another quote (I think) from Wellington in Waterloo was along the lines of "There go the best horses and horsemen, the worst led."

Allies - Nassau
-
Nassau 2nd Light Infantry, Chasseurs Firing Line Set #1 , 1815 (WB 2008 collection #36012) @ $61.95 Two piece set
The Nassauers were one of the Allied units that Wellington was able to get to Quatre Bras quickly on June 15th. They fought amazingly well. Almost as well as the Brunswickers. Without them having been in place when and where they were, Ney would have been able to slpit the British and others off from the Prussians decisively and Blucher might never have been able to make his promise to rejoin at La Belle Alliance. Which, of course, he did despite the drubbing he received at Ligny.

The only item that I have been able to find that this is close to was last listed in the 2003 W. Britain price listing under the "Ceremonial" heading and described as "Drum Horse". It is, thus, long out of production. Its original sugested retail price was US$35.00.
We have only this one in stock. Its price is significantly discounted because, while we do have its foam packing insert, we do not have the original box.
