Canadian Pacific Heavyweight Baggage-Sleeper

This is one of the Van Hobbies' run of the CPR heavyweight cars from fifteen or so years ago. The worksmanship on these full 85' cars was very fine, rivalling many of the products coming out nowadays. These Baggage-Sleeper combinations usually ran on the lake trains from Winnipeg to Fort William (Thunder Bay).

This model has been custom painted in CP's Tuscan Red and numbered #4490. The windows have been glazed with microscope glass and have shades installed, prototypically at different levels as set by individual users in the different seats. Kadee couplers are fitted and function properly, so that the car can not only be run in a train, but also switched in and out reliably.

This particular car is probably the only one of the series that still comes up for sale at retail occasionally. Price: $795.95. [Photo]

Canadian Pacific Heavyweight Coach

This is one of the Van Hobbies' run of the CPR heavyweight cars from fifteen or so years ago. The worksmanship on these full 85' cars was very fine, rivalling many of the products coming out nowadays.

This model has been custom painted in CP's Tuscan Red and numbered #1324. The windows have been glazed with microscope glass and have shades installed, prototypically at different levels as set by individual users in the different seats. Kadee couplers are fitted and function properly, so that the car can not only be run in a train, but also switched in and out reliably.

Unlike the Baggage-Sleeper Combination, the other cars in the VH run - this one included - are now virtually unobtainable on the used or consignment market. Only once, about eight years ago in a private distress sale, have I seen any for sale and even then, they commanded premium prices. Price: $795.95. [Photo 1] [Photo 2]

Canadian Pacific Heavyweight Coach

This model started off life as a plain-jane Athearn kit. It has been extensively reworked and redetailed. Kadee couplers were body-mounted at the proper height and function properly. Kadee 36" wheelsets were installed in the Athearn trucks and worked to run smoothly and freely.

All cast on handrails were shaved off and replaced with scale size wire, affixed by nut-bolt-washer castings. Working diaphragms were made from scratch and installed so that they do not interfere with coupler operation. Coupler cut bars, air, signal and steam hoses were added. Underbody detail was added. The windows have shades installed, set prototypically at different levels.

This model has been custom painted in CP's Tuscan Red and numbered #1457. It has also been weathered. $179.95. [Photo 1] [Photo 2]

CPR Big Otis Gondola

This is a Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute kit, built up properly, with fills and braces where the kit was wanting a few. It is detailed completely and correctly on all surfaces, right down to the wound chains inside the edges of the underbody.

It has been lettered with a combination of CDS, F&C decals and decals that are no longer available from a manufacturer out West. It is lightly weathered. Brake hoses, Kadee couplers and wheelsets have been applied.

A model of the CPR Big Otis was imported by Overland quite a few years back. One of the people reviiewng the RPI kit when it came out commented that the cars built from the kits looked better and captured the feel of the prototype better than the brass import.

This built up model is priced at $495.00. (We also carry the Funaro & Camerlengo kit of this car @ $31.95 if you would rather build these yourself.) [Photo 1] [Photo 2]

CPR Grain Hopper Boxcar

This is a Westerfield kit, built up properly, with full brake rigging and underbody detail. It has brake hoses, Kadee scale couplers and Kadee trucks fitted with Reboxx near scale wheelsets and with Kadee Brake Pad assemblies. Absolutely super detail!

The car has been lettered to represent the main CC&F Fort William, Ontario production runs. It is lightly weathered. (I am pleased enough with it that I almost did not put this one up for sale.)

This built up model is priced at $495.00. (We also offer the Westerfield kits @ $36.95 if you would rather build one yourself. )

CPR USRA Clone Boxcar

These are Tichy kits, built up properly, with a plethora of extra details to reflect correctly the rebuilding of the grain door cars that began in the late 1930'. The AB full brake rigging has been installed with proper mounting brackets as fashioned by CP on the underbody and on the B end, with the proper Ajax vertically pivotted brakewheel and housing and with release valve piping. Proper stirrup steps have been mounted onthe sides and ends. All grabirons have Nut/bolt/washer castings to represent the correct mounting detail. The roofwalk has been made from scratch so that there is actual space between the boards, not a fillet of plastic. At each of the mounting spots on the roof , the roofwalk has two rivets in place.

The car has brake hoses, Kadee scale couplers and Trucks fitted Reboxx close-to-scale trucks and with Kadee Brake Pad assemblies. Absolutely superb detail!

There are three cars available: Two (#234005 and 234024) have been lettered to represent the 1939 rebuilding and one (#234137) the 1940 rebuilding. All these cars have been carefully weathered. There are even brakemen's/yardmen's chalk scratchings applied.

Each of these cars is priced at $495.00. (We also offer the Tichy kits @ $18.95 if you would rather build one yourself.)

CPR RDC-2 #9100

This started out as a Proto 2000 model. it has, however, been extensively reworked to reproduce faithfully #9100 as it appeared in the mid-late 1950's.

The following has been done: (1) Cast on handrails shaved off and replaced with scale size wire handrails; (2) Working proper CPR "Pot" headlights with MV lenses installed on doors on both ends; (3) Two sets of chains strung across doors at both ends; (4) Windscreen wiper installed on Driver's side window on both ends; (5) Working marker lights installed on both ends, using fibre optics; (6) Proper CPR three tone horns installed on roof on both ends; (7) Proper CPR stand-up number boards scratchbuilt and installed on each end; (8) Coupler cut bars installed on each end; (9) Air hose installed on each end; (10) Scale wire grab irons and nut/bolt/washer castings applied at ends; (11) Interior lighting installed; (12) Interior painted; (13) Miniature passengers seated on seats inside the unit; (14) Kadee scale couplers installed on each end; (15) Lenz silent decoder installed, controlling motor operation, top headlights, "pot" headlights, marker lights and interior lighting; (16) Light weathering applied.

Many, many hours of exacting, careful work. Now as nicely detailed and finished as - and much better running than - any brass model heretofore produced.

The model, as shown in the pictures, is priced at $495.00. [Photo 1] [Photo 2] [Photo 3] [Photo 4] [Photo 5] [Photo 6] [Photo 7]
