Canadian National O18a class 0-6-0:

Van Hobbies/Samhongsa, custom painted #7427, weathered to represent a regularly working engine; original box.

Remotored with Sagami motor; Lenz Gold decoder installed. Lenz Gold USP power module installed, Sountraxx DSX Sound decoder installed. Chuff actuation is by a GME cam installed on main driver for absolute synchronicity.

Headlight and tender lights are directional and work on F0 (which also starts the generator/dynamo). Other functions are remapped as follows: F1 Whistle; F2 Bell; F3 Low gear; F4 Steam blow down; F7 Headlight dim; F8 Sound on/off.

We have shopped and reworked this model at least three times, improving its running qualities and general level of detail each time. It has power pickup by wipers on each of the tender wheelsets as well as each on each of the locomotive drivers.

This is a very smooth, reliable, trouble free runner. $2295.00 [Photo 1] [Photo 2] [Photo 3] [Photo 4] [Photo 5] [Photo 6]

Canadian National H6g class 4-6-0:

Van Hobbies/Samhongsa, custom painted #1392. Lenz LE080XS "silent" decoder installed, Directional front headlight. Fair to good runner, but needs some more running in to purr. $1795.00 [Photo 1] [Photo 2]

Canadian National J4e Class, 4-6-2:

This is a Van Hobbies/Samhongsa model. This model was very nicely painted and finished #5125 by the late Ken Baines, when he was doing his best work.

It has a working headlight and Kadee couplers mounted on the pilot and tender.

It runs well, but the original open frame motor and early Samhongsa gear box could be replaced to make it even better.

The model was used on Ken's module, but never abused. It has the original box & foam in good condition. $525.00 (Sold April 7, 2008, subject to receipt of payment.)

(An unpainted, mint in the box model is also available for the same price.)

Canadian National Lightweight, Smooth Side Sleeper:

This is a built up Athabaska Scale Models kit, custom finished in the green/black/yellow scheme and lettered "Thunder Bay". It has been heavily weathered to simulate a rough fall or winter run of service.

It has scale wire grab irons, ladder rests. American Limited diaphragms have been added, as have highly detailed, close-to-correct Train Station Products trucks fitted with Kadee wheelsets. The car has interior partitions and vestibule partitions with door. The underframe has had extra detail added and body-mounted Kadee couplers installed. This one looks best and runs best on 30"+ radius curves.

The photos show it before the steam, air and signal hoses were repaired. $229.95

CNR Caboose/Van #78342

This is one of the PFM/ Van Hobbies' runs of the CNR wood sheathed caboose (or 'van', if you prefer).

This model has been custom painted in CN's Morency orange, with Brown on the roof, grimy black on the underbody and grabirons lined out in White. Numbered #78342. A very slighly weathered finish has been applied to the model.

Kadee couplers and Kadee trucks/wheelsets have been fitted so the model will run and operate nicely and reliably on a working layout.

Price: $995.95. [Photo 1] [Photo 2] [Photo 3] [Photo 4]

Fine Scale Models Canadian National Coaling Tower , Kit #145 Custom built, :

This is the classic FSM kit which now fetches upwards of US$100-$150.00 when it surfaces occasionally at auction. The last one of these kits I saw built up and for sale was in the silent auction at the NMRA National convention in Portland in 1995. It was very much the worse for wear, but nonetheless sold for US$375.00 even back then.

This kit has been custom constructed, finished and detailed with care and close attention to detail, with several touches not in the original kit (e.g., the worker scaling the ladder and "Krystal Kleer" windows). The photos do a much better job describing the model and quality of workmanship than any number of words. $795.00

Canadian National S2 2-8-2:

This is an unpainted, test run only, Van Hobbies/Samhongsa brass model imported in the early-mid 1970s.

It does not compare in detail to the Overland model manufactured more recently. It is, however, a well constructed model that runs well, with jogs, hitches, bumps or the other annoying characterisitcs of early Korean made brass.

A new, can motor, a NWSL gear box, perhaps replacement of a few detail castings and a good paint job, finishing and weathering and this becomes a very, very nice model on a layout, or on a display shelf. $525.00

Canadian National 40' Steel Boxcar:

When True Line Trains came out with their CNR 40' steel boxcars, they made a beautiful ready to run model. That made it all the more disappointing that they did not have either coupler cut bars or brake hose detail, which would have made them superb models.

For those who, like me, bemoaned that inexplicable failure of judgement, I have added those details to some of the cars in our stock.

Having done that, I decided that they might as well be really ready to run on a layout. So they have also been weathered very nicely, I think, so as to bring out all the beautiful detail on the models. The weathering includes brakeman's chalk marks.

Only one is left: The white and green leaf herald, #486565. Price: $59.95 (If there is sufficient demand, I will do up a few more.)

And, for those who, like me, want their rolling stock even more detailed, on one. #475644, I also put in the brake line underneath, including the connection to the Triple valve. Then I put on Reboxx semi-scale wheelsets and Sergent true to scale working couplers.

Before weathering, I changed the reweigh date to August 1938, a couple of months after the car was originally constructed. The price on this one is $99.95.
